Lord Pigeon

Lord Pigeon is a gentle children’s story about observation, patience and the quiet kinds of bravery that can easily go unnoticed.

Perched above the streets on lamp posts, rooftops and familiar corners, Lord Pigeon spends much of his time simply watching. To most people, he might appear to be an ordinary bird going about an ordinary day.

But pigeons have witnessed rather more of human history than we sometimes remember.

Inspired by the real role played by messenger pigeons during wartime, Lord Pigeon gently introduces young readers to a time when small birds carried important messages across dangerous places, helping people communicate when other methods were not available.

Through Lord Pigeon’s perspective, children discover that courage does not always announce itself loudly. Sometimes bravery means continuing when something is difficult. Sometimes it means carrying an important message. Sometimes it simply means paying attention when everybody else is too busy to notice what is happening around them.

The story encourages children to slow down, observe their surroundings and think about the ordinary creatures and people whose contributions can easily be overlooked.

As part of the Sense-Able Story series, Lord Pigeon can be read, listened to and explored through sensory experiences.
